Loud party on the weekend until late at night leads police to a murder

The nature of police work is that officers never know exactly what to expect when they head out on a call. That was certainly the case over the weekend when Guilford County Sheriff’s officers received a call and headed out to quiet a loud party that was disrupting the peace in the middle of the night.

On the way, they received serious news: someone reported that there had been a shooting at the party.

The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office said officers responding to a 911 call about a wild party at 3205 Spring Mill Road in Greensboro around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, learned en route that the shooting had occurred.

When officers arrived, they found the victim and identified him as 26-year-old Diondre Overton. Although they immediately rendered medical aid, Overton was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the sheriff’s office, the investigation indicates that this is an isolated incident.

The case remains a homicide investigation and detectives would like to speak to anyone who was at the party or knows anything about Overton’s death.

Anyone with information or who was at the party is asked to contact Detective J. Robertson of the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office at 336-641-5969.

If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Guilford County Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000.
