Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, ending her marriage after only two years.

In news that should come as no surprise given the recent unrest in the world of Bennifer 2.0 (God, remember) The Trend?), Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from Ben Affleck.

TMZ reports that Jennifer Lopez announced her official split from Ben Affleck on August 20, which turned out to be the second anniversary of their rather formal wedding (they had married in Las Vegas the month before). Traditionally, the second anniversary gift is cotton, which is appropriate since the two now sleep under separate sheets.

Lopez and Affleck married in August 2022, a full 20 years after they first made tabloid headlines and were branded the “it couple” of the century. Not only did this romance provide plenty of late-night conversation and constant paparazzi attention, but, even worse, it gave us Gigli…We here at JoBlo.com are not usually one for conspiracy theories, but there may be a connection between this infamous flop, which resurfaced on the Criterion Channel earlier this year, and the split between Lopez and Affleck. The two also worked together on Kevin Smith’s Jersey Girls.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck were engaged at the time of their split in 2004. Since they never got married all those years ago, they have at least escaped the trend of remarriage among couples like Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. Affleck was previously married to Jennifer Garner from 2005 to 2018, while this was Lopez’s fourth marriage. She most recently tied the knot with singer Marc Antony, whom she divorced in 2014.

Lopez and Affleck’s relationship had been on the rocks for some time leading up to the divorce, with the two taking separate trips and being seen without wedding rings. As it turns out, while Lopez officially filed the divorce papers this week, the divorce itself was listed in the documents as early as April.
