Long Island man brings Jersey woman back from trip to Fire Island with lost wedding ring

New Jersey woman loses wedding ring on Fire Island

They went on a sisters trip to Fire Island.

But a dreamy day at the beach soon turned into a nightmare for Hyunjoo Han of Mahwah, New Jersey, when she realized she had lost her wedding ring.

“This ring was a 30-year-old renewed wedding band and wedding ring,” Han told Greater Long Island. “It carried so many emotions, my married life, my memories of my youth and my children.”

But leave it to an honest and kind-hearted man from Patchogue to save the day.

“Then Monday morning came and I got a call from Davis Park,” Han said. “I was told that someone had found my ring and that person was Nick DeNicola. I got his number through the ticket office and called him.”

“We met the next day in Patchogue and I met my angel.”

How it all happened

Han and her sisters headed to the Patchogue Marina on Sunday, July 21, to catch the 11:45 a.m. ferry to Davis Park. When she got to the parking lot, the first thing she wanted to do was put on sunscreen, so she took off all of her rings and placed them on her lap.

She was wearing a white summer dress at the time.

“My sister, who was driving the car, wanted to use the bathroom quickly and asked me to park the car,” she said. “Then I got out of the car, not realizing that the rings had fallen (in the parking lot), and went about my day’s work.”

It was only when they returned from Fire Island to the mainland that Han noticed that all of their rings were gone.

“After we got back from Fire Island and enjoyed the beach, we headed out to have an early dinner,” she said. “Then in the car, I noticed my rings were missing. I freaked out! My sisters and I looked everywhere but couldn’t find them.”

Luckily, she left her number at the ticket counter before she went home.

And she thanks God for Nick DeNicola.

“According to him, he was walking his dog as usual in the morning and saw sparkling objects as the sun shone on the parking lot floor, which caught his attention,” she said. “It is a miracle that my ring survived almost a day on the parking lot floor and was not damaged. It was found by a man who just wanted to return the ring to the owner.”

“I am forever grateful to Nick, such an honest and warm-hearted person.”

(DeNicola was unavailable for this article.)

“He waited until the office opened, took my number, and made sure to hand me the rings personally. The more I think about the accident, the more I realize it must be a miracle that I have the rings back on my finger. Nicholas DeNicola is a true angel who performed a miracle for me!

And she had something else to say about the Good Samaritan.

“He is the resident of the year!”
