Liverpool vs AC Milan expected line-up – Champions League

The Reds begin their 2024–25 Champions League campaign against AC Milan at the San Siro just three days after their first Premier League defeat of the season.

After a year in the Europa League, Liverpool are back in the UCL thanks to the club’s third-place finish in the 2023–24 Premier League. Just five years ago, the Reds won Europe’s biggest competition and lifted their sixth Champions League trophy.

However, without Jürgen Klopp at the helm, Liverpool have a lot to prove in the 2024-25 Champions League, especially after their 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the weekend. Arne Slot will be expecting his side to respond against AC Milan, who scored four goals in Serie A on Saturday.

This is what Liverpool’s starting eleven could look like against the Italian giants.

GK: Alisson – Alisson conceded Liverpool’s first goal of the season against Nottingham Forest and will be aiming to keep his first Champions League clean sheet since 2022.

RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – Although Slot replaced Alexander-Arnold in three of Liverpool’s first four games, the England international is still the manager’s right-back of choice.

Centre-back: Ibrahima Konaté – The 25-year-old beat Jarell Quansah to become the regular starter and will once again play alongside Liverpool’s captain.

Centre-back: Virgil van Dijk – The Dutchman will lead Liverpool out of the tunnel on Tuesday. It will be his 275th international match for the Reds.

LB: Andrew Robertson – The Scottish international will have the difficult task of keeping AC Milan’s Christian Pulisic at bay, who has already scored two goals and provided two assists this season.

DM: Ryan Gravenberch – Gravenberch will continue to act as Liverpool’s cover just in front of the back line, allowing the Reds’ front four, along with Mac Allister, to push forward.

DM: Alexis Mac Allister – The Argentinian was one of Liverpool’s best players against Nottingham Forest and will look to set the pace against Milan.

RW: Mohamed Salah – Salah has already scored three goals and provided three assists in the current Premier League season and should have a lot of success against a Milan defense that has conceded six goals in four games.

AM: Dominik Szoboszlai – Szoboszlai was part of a Liverpool attack that failed to impress on Saturday, but he still won the most tackles (8) in the game and will be looking forward to bouncing back against Milan.

LW: Luis Díaz – Díaz’s moments of brilliance this season will keep him on the left wing, but if he performs poorly again, Slot will turn to Cody Gakpo again.

ST: Darwin Nunez – After Diogo Jota’s struggles in Liverpool’s last two games, Núñez can finally get the nod and prove to Slot that he deserves the chance to make an impact from the start of a game.
