Mohamed Salah has revealed what Arne Slot advised his Liverpool players at half-time in Wednesday night’s 2-0 win over Bologna.

The Reds needed just 11 minutes to open the scoring in their Champions League clash, with Alexis Mac Allister completing a superb team move.

However, it took until the 75th minute for Salah to decide the game with a classic shot into the top corner.

Liverpool certainly didn’t have it quite their way. In the first half alone, Bologna had 48% possession and attempted five shots and ten crosses into Alisson’s penalty area.

Bologna’s pressure continued into the second half, but according to Salah, Slot’s message of solidarity at half-time stuck with them.

“The manager spoke at half-time and as players we also spoke to each other,” the Egyptian said (via Liverpool’s official website), adding: “We said we should stick together and try to play our football, and I did “Think we did that in the second half.”

Given the visitors’ lack of experience in European competition, many expected Liverpool to win comfortably against Bologna.

However, the Italian team had only lost one of their last seven games in all competitions at the start of this season, with five draws in that time at least showing that they can assert themselves and be difficult to beat.

Salah was relieved to see the Reds cross the finish line but was far from surprised at how difficult the task was.

“It is a very important victory,” said Salah.

“It’s a strong team; Tactically, they are incredible. I’m glad we managed to win the game.

“It’s normal (that Bologna had good times), they are a team that plays in the Champions League. It’s a tough team. They had a very good season last season.”
