Liverpool news: Fans’ opinions on Zubimendi’s rejection of the move

We asked you for your opinion on the news that Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi has rejected a move to Liverpool.

Here are some of your comments:

Joseph: Why would you turn down a club that has won six Champions Leagues to stay at a club where you won’t win anything? In my opinion, he hasn’t thought about the situation and he will live to regret his decision. However, Gravenberch’s rise has given me confidence in that defensive midfield position and now I think we should go for a centre-back to replace Joel Matip.

Robel: My problem is not that the player rejected a transfer from his youth club, Stevie G. did that too. However, it is a lame oversight by our recruitment department. It is reminiscent of the Tchouameni and Melo saga, which was disastrous and embarrassing. Why are we putting everything on this basket and where is plan B? Players who play in the wrong position will run out of energy and motivation.

Michael: If a player is not fully committed to joining Liverpool then we don’t want them. I don’t care how good they think they are, if they aren’t prepared to walk barefoot to Anfield then thanks but no thanks.

Mark: It was ambitious of Liverpool to sign a player who had already turned down an offer to move to the Premier League with Arsenal, so one can only assume they were encouraged to sign him. One has to assume that by not moving on to another target they have failed to address a known weakness, which is weakness.

Joe: Zubimendi turned us down to stay at his boyhood club. Gerrard did that for us and hopefully Trent will do the same. Yes, Liverpool are obviously a bigger club than Real Sociedad but he is not a world class player. For us it is not such a big loss. Now we need to figure out what to do with the defensive midfield position though. The fans deserve more from FSG.

Jeremy: If he doesn’t want to come, we don’t want him. A bad decision on his part – it may be ironic that we’re playing his club in a European match because then he’ll realise what a great club Liverpool are.
