Live updates on the 2024 Paris Olympics: The latest from Day 14 with more athletics, golf – and breakdancing

Quincy WilsonThe 16-year-old phenomenon from Bullis High in Maryland got his first taste of the Olympic life that was sure to await him. It was a rude awakening for the young lad.

Wilson ran the opening leg of the 4×400 relay, shooting out of the starting blocks on lane 4 and maintaining his position for the first 200 meters.

But it seemed he had gone too far, perhaps driven by the adrenaline and excitement of his debut on the biggest stage of his life.

The young man began to weaken in the second corner and struggled on the back straight. The strength and experience he still lacks became clear when the others began to overtake him.

Wilson did his best and passed the baton to Vernon Norwood with American in second to last place. Wilson’s first leg was a 47.30, but the teenager was not last! This title belonged Trinidad and Tobago‘S Renny Quow.

However, Wilson’s colleagues stood by his side.

Norwood immediately caught up with a monster second leg. His 43.60 was the fastest of all legs in the first round and beat Great Britain‘s star quarter-mile runner Matthew Hudson Smith43.90. They were the only two under 44 seconds.

Then Bryce Deadmond took over the baton from Norwood and won the third race. Christopher Bailey still had work to do. With a strong final 50-meter push, he secured third place and thus America’s automatic qualification for the finals.

Improvements will certainly be made for the finale. Quincy Hallthe fastest 400-meter runner in the world, will probably be part of the game.

Wilson, the rising star, gained much-needed experience on his debut.
