Live updates: Election news on Donald Trump and Kamala Harris

Republican presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump holds a rally in Mosinee, Wisconsin on September 7.

Former President Donald Trump echoed familiar talking points as he spoke during a campaign rally at an airfield in central Wisconsin on Saturday, exuding confidence for Tuesday’s debate against Vice President Kamala Harris and shouting out his allies Elon Musk and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Here are some statements from Trump during the rally:

Amendment to the 25th Amendment: Trump called for an amendment to the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution and declared that if a vice president covered up the “incompetence of the president”, he must be removed from office.

It was part of an attack on Harris, whom he accused of “covering up” President Joe Biden’s suitability for office before he eventually dropped out of the race.

For debate: Trump said the country is run by “stupid people” and that we “found that out in the debate with Joe (Biden).”

“We’ll find out again Tuesday night. Is anybody going to watch?” Trump asked the crowd. The former president predicted that experts would say he lost the debate even “if I destroy it.”

Praise for RFK Jr.: Trump repeatedly praised Kennedy and said that with his help, “we will fight corruption at the FDA, the CDC, the World Health Organization and other public health institutions.”

Kennedy, the former independent presidential candidate who has embraced conspiracy theories about vaccines and other issues, was tapped by the former president to lead a panel to study chronic health issues in a possible second Trump administration.

About Boeing and SpaceX: Trump said it was “embarrassing” that the Boeing Starliner crew was stranded in space and Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, would “have to rescue” them.

Trump continued to publicly praise the tech billionaire as the alliance between the two men grew ever closer.

“He’s very good at what he does,” Trump said of Musk. “Leon is going to put a rocket in the air, he’s excited about it,” he added, apparently mispronouncing his ally’s first name.

The praise for Musk comes just days after Trump announced that if re-elected, he would appoint Musk to head a newly created commission to improve government efficiency.
