Live forecast for Hurricane Helene with information on course, timing, storm surge and wind

Dr. Ryan Truchelut of Tallahassee-based WeatherTiger monitors rapidly intensifying Hurricane Helene ahead of its forecast collision with Florida’s Big Bend.

About 24 hours before the storm makes landfall, Helene is expected to develop into a destructive Category 4 hurricane with winds of 132 mph (212 km/h) and a storm surge that could reach 20 feet (6 meters) near the Tallahassee area and Florida’s Big Bend.

To discuss the threat to life and property, Truchelut will be live at 9:30 p.m. here and on Facebook pages across the USA TODAY NETWORK – Florida, including the Tallahassee Democrat, Panama City News-Herald, Gainesville Sun, Lakeland Ledger, Sarasota Herald-Tribune, Naples Daily News, Fort Myers News-Press and Northwest Florida Daily News. At the end of the forecast, he will attempt to answer your questions. Post them as a comment on the Tallahassee Democrat’s Facebook page or email [email protected].

He will outline the hurricane’s current path and expected impacts on Florida cities, including the catastrophic dangers of wind, storm surge and rain that Helene will bring on Thursday.

“There is no modern reference point for Helene. Between Tampa Bay and about Cape San Blas, this will most likely be the worst hurricane in living memory,” he wrote in his early afternoon forecast.
