Score updates for Oregon vs. Boise State

An Oregon turnover leads to an immediate touchdown for Boise State. A fumble by Ducks tight end Patrick was recovered by the Broncos at their own 30-yard line and on their first offensive play, Ashton Jeanty ran 70 yards for the tying touchdown with 13:09 minutes left.

At the start of the fourth quarter, the Ducks are in the lead and have the ball on their own 40-yard line.

The wide receiver completed an 85-yard punt return by running from sideline to sideline and then sprinting unhindered into the end zone to give the Ducks a 27-20 lead with 3:57 left in the third quarter.

The punt return for a TD was Oregon’s first since 2018.

The Ducks tied the score with a touchdown on a 59-yard pass from Gabriel to receiver Traeshon Holden on third-and-8 from their own 41-yard line. Atticus Sappington missed the extra point kick.

Boise State safety Alexander Teubner was ejected for purposeful pushing at the 11:00 mark of the third quarter after hitting Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel while sliding to complete a 2-yard run.

Boise State — 214 yards (passing: 115, running: 99)

With two seconds left in the first half, Jonah Dalmas kicked a 27-yard pass to extend the Broncos’ lead.

The Broncos strike again, scoring a 17-yard touchdown catch by Cameron Camper after a throw by Maddux Madsen with 4:51 minutes left in the first half.

The Gabriel-Stewart connection struck again when the Ducks quarterback sent a 34-yard touchdown pass to the receiver on the first play of Oregon’s drive – a drive that was started by a 24-yard punt return by Tez Johnson. The Ducks regained the lead with 9:28 left in the second quarter.

Dillon Gabriel was sacked on back-to-back plays by nickels Rodney Robison and Seyi Oladipo for a combined loss of 15 yards and ended Oregon’s drive. Those were the fifth and sixth sacks the Ducks allowed this season after allowing a total of five in 2023 and 2022.

Ashton Jeanty scored on a 3-yard run on the second play of the second quarter and the Broncos regained the lead. Boise State’s scoring drive consisted of 9 plays, 75 yards and lasted 5:16.

The Ducks are ahead, but when play resumes, the Broncos have the ball at Oregon’s 3-yard line.

Also notable in the Ducks’ attack was a change in the offensive line. Right guard Iaponi Laloulu was moved to center for Charlie Pickard and Nishad Strother was used as right guard.

And just like that, the Ducks looked like the Ducks again. Oregon drove 72 yards in three plays and 51 seconds to take the lead. The drive began with a 67-yard pass from Dillon Gabriel to Evan Stewart that brought the Ducks to the BSU 5. One play later, Gabriel ran untouched into the end zone and scored the 1-yard touchdown with 4:36 minutes left in the first quarter.

Another three-and-out for the Ducks offense, who will punt for the second straight time. They have 12 yards on six plays in the game so far.

Former Oregonians basketball player and NBA champion Payton Pritchard was honored during a break in the first quarter in front of a sold-out crowd at Autzen Stadium.

The West Linn native, who played point guard for the Ducks for four years from 2016 to 2020, helped the Celtics defeat the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals in June.

In 19 postseason games, Pritchard averaged 6.4 points, 2.1 assists and 1.9 rebounds in 18.7 minutes per game.

Pritchard is one of the former Oregon players to win an NBA title, along with Jim Loscutoff (Boston 1957, 59, 61, 62, 63, 64), Greg Ballard (Washington 1978), Jordan Bell (Golden State 2018) and Chris Boucher (Toronto 2019).

Pritchard was the 2020 Pac-12 Player of the Year and also won the 2020 Bob Cousy Award. The widely recognized All-American is the winningest Duck in program history, winning 105 of his 144 games played.

The Broncos scored a 43-yard field goal by Jonah Dalmas with 9:29 minutes left in the first quarter to take the lead.

Broncos right guard Roger Carreon suffered a lower leg injury on the second play of Boise State’s offensive series and had to be carried off the field.

The Ducks were three and out, punting on fourth-and-2 on the game’s opening drive. After a first down 7-yard run by Jordan James, the Ducks allowed another sack by Dillon Gabriel (the fourth of the season) and Gabriel had to run on the third down to evade the pass rush.

The Broncos won the coin toss and will start on defense after the second half is postponed, with kickoff coming in a few moments at Autzen Stadium.

Linebacker Jeffrey Bassa, right guard Matthew Bedford and wide receiver Gary Bryant Jr. are in uniform and completing pregame warmups less than an hour before kickoff against Boise State.

All three players were listed as questionable in the Ducks’ availability report released today at 5 p.m.

Whether in front of an angry home crowd in Eugene, during an infamous night on the blue turf in Boise, or on a neutral field in the Nevada desert, there are a few common themes in the history of Oregon-Boise State football games – bitter losses for the Ducks and bad memories for their fans.

It’s Boise State’s first visit to Eugene since 2008, when freshman quarterback Kellen Moore led the Broncos to an upset victory in a game marred by unfair hits from the Boise State defense, including a penalty that knocked Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli out of the game in the first quarter.

It will also be the first game between the teams since Boise State crushed the Ducks in the 2017 Las Vegas Bowl.

But none of those games compare to the 2009 season opener in Boise, when Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount delivered a postgame right jab to Broncos defensive lineman Byron Hout that rocked the college football world.

It’s been 15 years since “The Punch” – Blount’s response to what he considered a derisive and racist insult from the helmetless Hout on the field after the game – but the resentment between the two teams actually began a year earlier in Eugene.

Inside linebacker Jeffrey Bassa was listed as questionable on Oregon’s official Big Ten availability report for Saturday’s game against Boise State.

The senior was in and out of last week’s win against Idaho, but was at practice last week.

Also questionable for Saturday are right guard Matthew Bedford and wide receiver Gary Bryant Jr. Both were questionable last week and neither played.

Defensive backs Jahlil Florence and Dakoda Fields, offensive lineman Dave Iuli, tight end Brashear, defensive lineman My’Keil Gardner and kicker Andrew Boyle are out for the game against the Broncos.
