Lions vs Seahawks, Dolphins vs Titans

No harm was caused to the dolphins

Miami’s blunder didn’t hurt them after all.

With Will Levis still unable to get any easy yardage for Tennessee, the Titans took the lead with a three-pointer before a punt. Levis completed three of his first four passes, but to little effect.

Sales, dolphins

Miami quarterback Tyler Huntley threw a return pass that Tyreek Hill dropped. Tennessee’s Arden Key was the only player on the field aware that the pass might be a live ball when he recovered it. It took a referee check to confirm the rally. So far, every team has had a shocking rally.

Will Levis is picked up!

The Titans had success on their first drive, but Will Levis was picked off by Emmanuel Ogbah. Levis has had a penchant for turnovers so far this season, coughing up the ball on Tennessee’s opening drive.

It’s Tyler Huntley time for the Dolphins.

The Miami Dolphins are a completely different team without Tua Tagovailoa

With Tua Tagovailoa under center, the Miami Dolphins were a playoff team and possible Super Bowl contender.

Without him, the Dolphins haven’t scored a touchdown in nearly 80 miles of game time.

Tagovailoa suffered a head injury in Miami’s Week 2 loss to the Buffalo Bills, and his backups Skylar Thompson and Tim Boyle were unable to lead the Dolphins into the end zone in a Week 3 loss to Seattle.

Tyler Huntley, who was signed off the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad, gets his chance to lead Miami tonight.

Tyler Huntley starts for his hometown team

Tyler Huntley will start at quarterback for the Miami Dolphins tonight.

Huntley was born in Dania Beach, about 15 miles from the Dolphins’ home stadium. He attended Hallandale High School, which is even closer to Miami’s home.

The Dolphins signed Huntley to their practice squad after Tua Tagovailoa suffered a concussion in Week 2. He was named the starter after backup Skylar Thompson suffered a rib injury in Week 3 against the Seahawks.

Huntley has a career record of 3-6.

Why TV executives are freaking out in 2029

At $111 billion over 11 years, the NFL’s media rights deal is the largest in the United States. The deal includes an exit clause after the 2029 season with all media partners except Disney (which can exit a year later).

Sources tell me the cancellation also affects Sunday Ticket, the league’s out-of-market package for which Alphabet’s YouTube paid around $2 billion. This means that after the 2029-30 Super Bowl, the NFL has the right to completely reshape the media landscape if it so chooses.

Five years is a lifetime in the media industry, given the rapid pace of change. To put that time frame in perspective, if you rewind five years from now, Disney+, NBCUniversal’s Peacock, Paramount+, and Max (formerly known as HBO Max) had all yet to launch. Together they now have more than 300 million subscribers.

But it’s not too early to think about what the year 2029 symbolizes. I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that 2029 could be the end of the modern media age. It’s at least plausible that streaming has become so dominant at this point that the NFL feels comfortable removing some Sunday afternoon packages from broadcast television, especially given the better balance sheets and potential global reach of companies like Netflix, Google, Apple and Amazon.

Why Titans head coach Brian Callahan hired his father

Jesse Kirsch And Will Ujek

Brian Callahan, the Tennessee Titans’ first-year head coach, is overseeing aspects he didn’t have to think about before as an assistant. He manages the training schedule, strength training and his staff – which happens to include his father, Bill Callahan, as the offensive line coach.

“It’s a dream come true,” Bill said. “We are proud of Brian, as we are of all of our children, but this is truly a unique and rare situation we are in right now.”

Now a father and son from the same family tree – but slightly different coaching backgrounds – are trying to put the Titans on the road to success.

Their similarities and unique dynamic have led to a few misunderstandings and jokes along the way.

The Lions’ greatest honor ever

Calvin Johnson, who holds nearly every record for the Detroit Lions, will be honored at tonight’s game by being inducted into the Pride of the Lions.

Johnson, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2021, played in Detroit from 2007 until his retirement after the 2015 season.

The Chiefs remain undefeated this season

Kansas City won its eleventh road game in a row against the Chargers yesterday with 17:10.

Both teams rallied from an initial 10-point deficit to tie the game late in the fourth quarter. Chiefs running back Samaje Perine scored a 2-yard touchdown to give Kansas City its first lead of the game, and when wide receiver Xavier Worthy later caught quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ third pass, the Chiefs earned their fourth victory in Episode of the year.

But it wasn’t all cause for celebration for the Chiefs. Wide receiver Rashee Rice left the game early in the first quarter with a potentially serious knee injury.

The Pittsburgh Steelers gave up the most points they have accumulated all season

The Steelers were previously undefeated and lost 24:27 to the Indianapolis Colts last night after a poor defensive performance.

Despite Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson’s injury in the first half, the team was able to dominate thanks to 39-year-old Joe Flacco, who subbed in for Richardson and threw two touchdown passes of his own.

Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald has a resume like no other

For many casual football fans, it might be a frightening sight to see Mike Macdonald roaming the Seattle Seahawks sidelines rather than the gum-chewing, confident Pete Carroll.

Macdonald is the youngest head coach in the NFL at 37 years old and one of the few to hold a head coaching job who has no significant playing experience beyond high school.

And although he spent several years as a coordinator and assistant coach in the NFL and colleges, he was never the man in charge. Seattle hired him earlier this year from the Baltimore Ravens, where he served as defensive coordinator.

Beleaguered QB Will Levis and his 0-3 Titans limp into the MNF

No one feels more heat in Nashville than error-prone Titans quarterback Will Levis.

He has thrown five interceptions in just 94 passes, for a 5.3% pick rate, third highest in the NFL, and Tennessee’s team offense ranks 29th with 260.3 yards per game.

But as shaky as those numbers were, the 25-year-old QB, who graduated in the same high school class as Brock Purdy and Trevor Lawrence, arguably performed worse on the eye test.

In a 24-17 loss to the New York Jets on September 15, Levis caused a fumble with a ridiculous, improvised sideways kick deep in New York territory that resulted in a turnover.

Derrick Henry creates the longest run in Ravens history

The Baltimore Ravens dominated the Buffalo Bills at home last night with a 35-10 victory.

The most notable moment of the game was Henry’s 87-yard run on Baltimore’s first offensive play, breaking the previous 82-yard record shared by Jamal Lewis and Le’Ron McClain.
