Linkin Park introduces Emily Armstrong as new singer for 2024 world tour

A new chapter in Linkin Park’s history is among us. On Thursday, the band announced plans to embark on a headlining tour that begins Sept. 11 at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, marking their first run of live performances since the death of frontman Chester Bennington in 2017. The tour without him also brings with it a new co-singer: Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson and Dave Farrell have tapped Emily Armstrong of Dead Sara. Colin Brittain, songwriter and producer of G Flip, was also announced as the band’s new drummer.

Linkin Park also released their first new song in seven years, “The Emptiness Machine,” which premiered alongside a livestream performance to announce their new album. From zeroThe release is scheduled for November 15th.

The upcoming From zero The world tour will include stops in Los Angeles, New York, Hamburg, London, Seoul and Bogota. Pre-sales for the LP Underground fan club begin on September 6th and general sales on September 7th.

Linkin Park first began announcing it last week. On Instagram, the band’s official account shared a video of a countdown that started at 100 hours and then counted down. This was followed by another countdown that started at zero seconds, ran up to 9, and immediately jumped back to 5 before the video completely distorted. “It’s only a matter of time…” the caption read, along with a link to their website.

The site’s landing page had its own message: “Be part of something. Tune in.” The next teaser used the same statement in its headline, this time with an accompanying image that appeared to show the logo Linkin Park has used since 2007.

Linkin Park’s last live performance was a tribute concert for Bennington in October 2017. It took place almost three months after the musician’s suicide. “I was on stage almost the entire time and sang most of the time,” Shinoda said. Rolling Stone in 2018. “I had to shut myself off and be out of my body for some time to get through the whole thing. But I was really thrilled with how it came out. The longest show we’ve done before was 90 minutes, and this one was over three hours. I know it helped a lot of people who had no memory, and it gave some people closure.”

Even then, the band was thinking about what to do next. “(Chester) had such a specific tone and such a wide range – an incredible range. He could sing almost any style you wanted him to sing. That led to conversations about what to do next,” Shinoda said. “It became clear that you couldn’t just hire some idiot to come up there and sing with us, because he wouldn’t be able to do half the material.”
