CHICAGO — Greetings from The Friendly Confines, where it’s unseasonably warm. The temperature hit the 30s this afternoon, which isn’t supposed to be the case in Chicago in late September. The wind will be blowing into left field, though, so maybe the Nationals can take advantage of that and actually hit the ball in the air to get a little more power.

Luis García Jr. is out of the lineup for the second day in a row, the second baseman still dealing with problems with his right wrist. But starting in his place is a new face: Darren Baker. Yes, the kid is in the lineup for the first time in the major leagues, and he’ll be playing in one of the ballparks where he grew up when his dad coached the Cubs. That has to be exciting for both him and Dusty.

The Nationals will face right-hander Javier Assad, who they saw in DC a few weeks ago. Assad got off to a good start in that game on August 31, allowing three runs in six innings and hitting a solo home run to Andrés Chaparro.

Patrick Corbin is on the mound for the Nats in what appears to be his second-to-last start for the franchise. With the team switching to a six-man rotation for the remainder of the game and Trevor Williams coming off the injured list, Corbin is expected to make his final start in a week against the Royals. He will look to keep the Cubs at bay tonight and give his teammates a chance.
