LG launches SPARK 2024 to share AI and new technologies with Big Tech and startups

LG Group, South Korea’s fourth-largest conglomerate, is hosting a technology fair to exchange ideas on new technologies, including artificial intelligence, with global big tech companies and startups.

LG Corp., the holding company of the LG Group, announced that it will hold LG SPARK 2024 for three weeks starting Monday at LG Science Park in Seoul.

On Monday, LG opened a two-day technology exhibition where R&D personnel from eight LG subsidiaries, including LG Electronics Inc., LG Chem Ltd. and LG Energy Solution Ltd., as well as technology experts from partner companies and start-ups, came together to discuss future technologies and share insights.

To facilitate discussions, the LG Group said it had set up 60 booths at the fair to showcase its latest technological achievements in six sectors, including AI, biotechnology, clean technology and mobility.

LG has invited external experts such as Kim Sang-bae, professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at MIT, Lee Sang-yup, senior vice president of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), and Kang Ki-suk, professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Seoul National University, to give presentations at tech seminars during the two-day technology fair.

OTHER EVENTS AT LG SPARK 2024

The technology fair is followed by the DX Fair, where the successes of the individual subsidiaries in the field of digital transformation (DX) are presented, the Super Start Day for discovering promising startups and the LG Software Developer Conference.

LG also plans to host a cultural week to create a place where local residents and small business owners can come together and discuss issues of mutual interest.

During the DX exhibition, the successes of 32 DX projects of LG subsidiaries will be presented.

Bae Kyung-hoon, head of the LG AI Research Institute, is scheduled to speak to event attendees about Exaone 3.0, LG’s proprietary hyperscale AI.

He will also introduce ChatExaone, an enterprise AI agent based on an open source AI Large Language Model (AI LLM).

LG said around 40 startups will participate in the Sper Start Day event after a preliminary competition. They include KL Cube Co., which uses AI technology to automatically translate Korean sign language, and Voinosis Co., an AI company that analyzes the acoustic characteristics of dementia patients’ voices.

Green Continue, an LG-backed startup that produces plant-based leather products, and 11 other startup companies will showcase their achievements.

BIG TECHNOLOGY PARTICIPANTS

At the LG Software Developer Conference, participants share software technologies from eight areas, including AI, big data, mobility, automobiles, platforms and architecture.

LG said developers from major technology companies such as Microsoft, IBM, Qualcomm and AWS will participate.

“We will continue to hold the LG SPARK event annually to introduce new technologies and exchange new ideas,” said Park Il-pyung, President of LG Electronics and Head of LG Science Park.
