Lewis Hamilton reveals how his old job helped the F1 film with Brad Pitt

Lewis Hamilton has revealed how his previous job helped him recognise film star Brad Pitt’s racing potential.

The 39-year-old has taken on a central role in Pitt’s upcoming film F1, which was filmed at Silverstone and other legendary race tracks.

Hamilton was initially announced as a co-producer of the film and has since revealed his role in the film to ensure it accurately portrays the world of F1.

A nod to the film’s realism is the use of real actors for the racing scenes. For example, Pitt drives a modified Formula 2 car for the film.

Lewis Hamilton reveals Brad Pitt’s racing skills

In the F1 film, Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, a former racing driver who returns to the F1 racing series with APX-GP, and his teammate Joshua Peace (Damson Idris).

In a recent interview with Esquire, Hamilton was asked about Pitt’s driving skills and the champion also revealed his previous job before Formula 1.

“Yeah. We went to a race track in LA. I took him and sat in the passenger seat and he drove,” Hamilton said. “When I was younger, I was a driving instructor. It was a way to make some money on the side while I was racing.”

“I’ve sat around God knows how many non-racers. You can tell immediately who’s good and who’s bad. He (Pitt) was there right away. You could see he’s got it. He’s got it in his DNA. He just hasn’t been able to perfect it like we have. But he has great potential.”

When will the F1 film be released in cinemas?

The F1 film starring Brad Pitt will be released internationally on June 25, 2025, but in North America two days later, on June 27, 2025.
