Lee Chapel AME hosts annual Women’s Day worship service

Lee Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church will celebrate its annual Women’s Day during Sunday worship services on August 18 at 10 a.m. The theme of the celebration is “Women United in God’s Service,” Corinthians 12:4-5.

The service will be in person and also broadcast on Facebook Live: Lee Chapel AME. Guest preacher is Rev. Dr. Margaret Elaine M. Flake, known as “Rev. Elaine.” She is an impressive preacher, teacher, and role model who has impacted many lives at Greater Allen AME Cathedral in New York City. She served as co-pastor with Rev. Dr. Floyd H. Flake until May 2020 and became senior pastor upon his retirement in June 2024.

Flake has dedicated her life to Christian education, evangelism, and missionary work. She and her husband founded the Allen Christian School in 1982 and developed the Allen Women’s Resource Center for victims of domestic violence.

Since 1983, she has advised the Mission Department and other ministries in Allen, coordinated the Allen Women’s Ministry Department, and hosted annual retreats attended by more than 1,000 women. She has played a critical role in increasing the church’s membership to over 15,000.

A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Flake earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Fisk University. She received a Master of Arts from Boston University and a Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. She earned a Doctor of Ministry from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. For her many and varied contributions to the community, Flake has received numerous honors, awards, citations, commendations and honors and is also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, National Council of Negro Women and The Links, Incorporated, where she
currently serves as National Chaplain.

She has been married to Reverend Dr. Floyd Flake for over 47 years. The couple has four adult children.

This year’s Women’s Day program is led by Leah Dupree Love and Marva Bradford. Everyone is welcome and invited to celebrate in Lee Chapel and enjoy the uplifting preaching and fruitful fellowship. Lee Chapel is located at 1200 Dr. DB Todd, Jr. Boulevard and is led by the pastoral leadership of the Rev. Dr. Harold M. Love, Jr.
