Lebanon: Exploding pagers targeting Hezbollah members injured hundreds, Lebanese security source says

CNN

Hundreds of people were injured in an attack on Hezbollah members’ pagers on Tuesday, a Lebanese security source told CNN. State media reported dozens of wounded members of the militant group.

According to the semi-official Iranian media outlet Mehr News, the Iranian ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, was among the injured in Beirut.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health urged citizens who have pagers to put them down and warned hospitals to be on “high alert.”

According to Lebanese internal security forces, several areas in Lebanon were affected by the explosions, particularly the southern suburbs of Beirut.

NNA reported that hacked pagers exploded in the towns of Ali Al-Nahri and Riyaq in Lebanon’s central Bekaa Valley, leaving many people injured. The towns are Hezbollah strongholds.

The Israeli military, which has been embroiled in clashes with Hezbollah since the Gaza war began last October, said it would not comment on the incident.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry said health workers across Lebanon were urgently called to work as “a large number of injured people were admitted to hospitals” following the pager explosions. Officials also urged people to donate blood as the need would continue to grow.

Videos are circulating on social media and news agencies that appear to show massive explosions in various locations.

A video from a surveillance camera shows a man choosing fruit in a supermarket when an explosion rips his bag to pieces. Passers-by run away when they hear the explosion, while the man falls to the ground clutching his abdomen. After a few seconds, he can be heard groaning in pain.
