League standings and games for participation in the MLB playoffs

play

The MLB postseason is upon us and the teams that will compete for this year’s World Series are slowly coming into view. However, many teams have not yet secured their spot, including the New York Mets.

After a slow start to the season, the Mets have emerged as one of the best teams in the National League and are playing arguably their best baseball of the season at just the right time. That doesn’t mean the Mets are guaranteed a postseason place, however. In fact, they are just one game ahead of the Atlanta Braves for the final wild card spot. But that’s not surprising given the Mets’ incredible performance of late, winning 13 of their last 17 games since August 29.

Here is the Mets’ magic number for the postseason and division as of September 17.

What is the Mets’ magic number to reach the 2024 MLB postseason?

  • Mets reach MLB postseason: 11

Note: The Mets currently have the tiebreaker over the Braves, meaning if both teams finish the regular season with the same score, the Mets will clinch the playoff spot, or the higher spot if both teams qualify.
