Lead role in “Rainmaker” series on USA Network with John Slattery

John Slattery has been cast in a lead role in the USA Network series “The Rainmaker.”

The series originally aired on the cable network in June and is based on the cult novel of the same name by John Grisham. Slattery will play Leo F. Drummond. The character is described as “a legendary lion of the courtroom and senior partner at Tinley Britt, the powerful law firm that Rudy Baylor faces.”

The official logline for the series reads: “Rudy Baylor, fresh out of law school, goes head to head with legal star Leo Drummond and his law school girlfriend. Rudy, along with his boss and her unkempt paralegal, uncover two interconnected conspiracies surrounding the mysterious death of their client’s son.”

The role of Rudy Baylor has yet to be cast.

Slattery is best known for his role on the AMC series Mad Men, for which he received four Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama. His other television credits include The Good Fight, Mrs. America, Arrested Development, Veep, Sex and the City, and Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp. Slattery has appeared in films such as Spotlight, The Adjustment Bureau, Flags of Our Fathers, Charlie Wilson’s War, Station Agent, and Traffic.

He is represented by Gersh and Sloane Offer.

The series is from Lionsgate Television and Blumhouse Television. Michael Seitzman is the writer and executive producer. Jason Richman was also an executive producer and co-wrote the pilot with Seitzman. Grisham, David Gernert and Jason Blum also serve as executive producers.

The Rainmaker was originally adapted for the screen as a film in 1997. It was directed by Francis Ford Coppola and starred Matt Damon in the role of Baylor. The cast also included Claire Danes, Jon Voight, Mary Kay Place, Mickey Rourke, Danny DeVito, Danny Glover, Roy Scheider, Virginia Madsen and Teresa Wright.

Deadline was the first to report on Slattery’s casting.
