Large trucks collide near the county line between Santa Clara and San Benito, one driver dies
SANTA CLARA COUNTY – A San Jose man was killed and another suffered serious injuries when their semi-trucks collided head-on Monday morning near the border between Santa Clara and San Benito counties, authorities said.
The fatal accident occurred shortly before 10 a.m. on Highway 25 south of Bolsa Road, the California Highway Patrol said in a press release.
A 70-year-old man was traveling northbound in a 2017 Freightliner Cascadia when he crossed the solid double yellow lines and collided with a 68-year-old man traveling southbound in a 2022 Mack Anthem, the CHP said. Both tractor-trailers came to a stop in the westbound shoulder lane with their trailers blocking the southbound lane.
The 68-year-old man suffered fatal injuries in the accident. The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office will release his identity after it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified.
The 70-year-old man was ejected from the Freightliner and suffered serious injuries. He was taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center for treatment.
Neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the accident, the CHP said.
