PLAQUEMINES PARISH, Louisiana (WGNO) – A Lake Charles man was killed Saturday, August 17, when the pipeline he was believed to have been working on exploded near Venice.
The Louisiana State Police Emergency Unit reports that its officers were notified of the explosion, fire and a missing person shortly after 8 p.m. on Saturday.

On Sunday, August 18, Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office officers and deputies recovered the body of 40-year-old Joshua Nichols. The LSP unit believes he was on a mud boat and possibly working on the natural gas pipeline when it exploded.
According to LSP, the pipelines are blocked. However, one is still burning and the remaining natural gas in the line is burning. The readings from the air monitoring system indicate that there is no danger to the population.
No other injuries were reported. The LSP will investigate the explosion.
