Labor Day Weekend: Many in the Chicago area enjoy holiday weekend events to celebrate the unofficial end of summer

In the meantime, a danger advisory for the beaches is in effect from Sunday morning to Monday evening.

With summer coming to an end, many people in the Chicago area have a busy weekend planned to enjoy the last remnants of the season.

Millennium Park was a big draw on Saturday afternoon, as many children sought relief from the heat at the fountain while others sampled the culinary delights offered by some of the food trucks.

With this year’s Jazz Fest in full swing and numerous other events and activities taking place, there is also a lot of traffic and travel delays.

Despite the difficulties of getting around the city, some people told ABC7 they didn’t want to let anything spoil the rest of their summer fun on Saturday.

A beach hazard warning is in effect for part of the holiday weekend beginning Sunday morning. Life-threatening swimming conditions are expected on Lake Michigan beaches in Illinois’ Lake County and parts of Cook County.

The beach hazard warning is expected to remain in effect until 7:00 p.m. Monday, Labor Day.

Due to strong winds, wave heights will be between 1.2 and 2.4 meters, said ABC7 meteorologist Larry Mowry.

“Swimming conditions are life-threatening, especially for inexperienced swimmers,” a public warning said. “Stay out of the water to avoid dangerous swimming conditions and do not venture onto piers, jetties, breakwaters or other shore structures.”
