Kyren Williams has the RB job firmly under control, Blake Corum plays 0 snaps

After an offseason built around diversifying the Rams’ running back room, the team rewritten history when Kyren Williams controlled the majority of running back snaps in Sunday night’s 20-26 loss to Detroit.

Williams was on the field for 67 of the Rams’ 74 offensive plays. Surprisingly, Ronnie Rivers finished second with seven, and Blake Corum finished with zero snaps.

That’s right, rookie Corum hasn’t played a single offensive snap, despite being highly praised by coaches and players all offseason.

While Williams’ position is set, one has to start questioning the mindset and logic of the Rams’ offensive coaching staff. There are already question marks surrounding the attempted switch of Steve Avila’s position and the rotations of their receivers, but if the plan was to have Williams play for the majority of the game and use Rivers as a backup, why was Corum put on the field all preseason?

What did Rivers do to overtake Corum in the rankings? Was Corum not prepared for Sunday night’s game? If so, why, and why didn’t he get any real playing time? Why did Zach Evans and Boston Scott do all the preseason drills without even being on the team?

While Williams’s use is justified based on his performance, it raises more questions than it answers regarding the running back position.
