EXCLUSIVE: Emmy winner Kyle Chandler is currently negotiating his lead role in LanternsHBO’s high-profile series based on the DC comic “Green Lantern,” sources told Deadline.
No one is commenting, but I heard Chandler is up for playing Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern character played by Ryan Reynolds in the 2011 film.
The series of Ozark Chris Mundy, GuardianDamon Lindelof and comic book writer Tom King follow new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Jordan, two intergalactic cops who find themselves drawn into a dark Earth-based mystery while investigating a murder in the heartland of the United States.
The search for an actor to play Stewart is still ongoing.
The eight-part Lanterns is produced by HBO in association with Warner Bros Television and DC Studios. Mundy, who serves as showrunner, Lindelof and King are co-writers and executive producers. The project, which was ordered straight to series in June, is one of the first titles from the revamped DC Studios.
“John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of DC’s most compelling characters, and Lanterns brings them to life in an original detective story that is a fundamental part of the unified DCU that we will see next summer with Superman”said DC Studios co-chairmen and co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran at the time of the series’ announcement.
Chandler, an Emmy winner for his starring role in Lights of Friday night, also played in Bloodline, Catch-22 And Super excited. In feature films he will next be seen in Back in action And Anniversary. He is repped by Gersh and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
