Kim Kardashian visits Lyle and Erik Menendez in prison amid Netflix show controversy | Ents & Arts News

Kim Kardashian reportedly visited two brothers who are currently serving life sentences for the brutal murder of their parents 35 years ago in California.

Lyle and Erik Menendez were found guilty of shooting Jose and Kitty Menendez multiple times at close range in their Beverly Hills mansion on August 20, 1989. The brothers were 21 and 18 years old at the time.

A Netflix The true crime drama is currently at the top of the Netflix viewing charts.

According to US entertainment channel TMZ, the brothers were among the inmates who heard Kardashian speak about prison reform at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego County.

Both brothers were involved in a project called “Greenspace,” which encourages inmates to improve the appearance of prison yards to aid their rehabilitation.

Kim is said to have been with her sister Khloé, her mother Kris and the actor who plays Erik in the Netflix series, Cooper Koch.

Last week, the real Erik Menendez criticized the Netflix show, calling it “dishonest” and “inaccurate,” and railing against the “blatant lies” that made up the characterization of his older brother Lyle.

In a statement shared by Erik’s wife Tammi on X, he said: “I thought we had moved beyond the lies and devastating character portrayal of Lyle, creating a caricature of Lyle based on horrific and blatant lies that ran rampant on the show. I can only believe this was done on purpose.”

He accused the show’s creator, Ryan Murphy, of “bad intentions” and said the show had set back the treatment of male victims of sexual assault by many years.

The brothers claimed they committed the murders in self-defense after years of physical, emotional and sexual abuse.

The prosecution argued that they killed their parents in order to receive a large inheritance.

“It’s hard to see your life on screen”

Murphy, who produced the first season of “Monster” about US serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, responded to the comments by saying that Erik had not even seen the series and that as the creator of the series it was his duty to present both sides of the story.

Murphy told Entertainment Tonight: “It’s really hard when it’s your life on the line, to see your life on screen…

“Four people were involved in the incident, two people are dead. What about the parents? As storytellers, we had an obligation to also try to bring in their perspective based on our research, which is what we did.”

Speaking to reporters at the series’ premiere in Los Angeles last week, Cooper Koch said he did a lot of research for the show.

The actor who plays Erik said: “I just read everything I could find. I watched the entire trial. I was sleeping while the trial was going on. So I fell asleep listening to Erik (Menendez) and Leslie (Hope Abramson – the lawyer who defended the brothers) on the witness stand.”

“Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” starring Javier Bardem, Chloë Sevigny, Cooper Koch and Nicholas Alexander Chavez, is now streaming on Netflix.
