The Killeen ISD Board of Directors will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday to hold a public hearing and possibly vote on the proposed fiscal year 2025 budget and tax rate of nearly $500 million, as well as other agenda items.
During this time, anyone can speak, provided they have filled out the registration form for this purpose. Speakers will be called to the podium by the Chairman of the Board and will have three minutes to comment on the items on the agenda related to the budget.
“The trustees will not deliberate or make any decisions on the information provided during the public hearing. Questions may be discussed among board members and staff on budget-related agenda items. Requests for additional information during the public hearing may be referred to the county administration,” the public registration form states. Board members typically do not comment on comments made during a public hearing.
Over the past few weeks, CFO Kallen Vaden has presented many slides at board workshops and meetings outlining the budget discussions. On Tuesday, the presentation will also include the final budget numbers that are expected to be adopted.
The trustees also plan to read a resolution to implement the new tax rate of $0.8758 for fiscal year 2025.
A third and final budget amendment to the 2023-24 budget will also be presented to the Board.
With the latest budget amendment, the administration is attempting to align the budget more closely with actual revenues and expenditures at the end of the year without exceeding the budget in any functional category.
Minutes of the last five Board meetings, including workshops, will be presented and are expected to be approved by the Trustees.
Also on the agenda is a memorandum of understanding with the Bell County Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program for the upcoming school year. The program is the countywide alternative campus for students expelled from their home campus. The program continues to serve school districts in Bell County as a joint project between the Bell County Juvenile Justice System and the county school districts to provide education, discipline and rehabilitation to students expelled from their home campus.
After a discussion of the agendas of future board meetings, a closed meeting of the trustees is planned.
The meeting will be held in the conference room of the administration building, 200 NWS Young Drive.
