Keith Urban plays an amazing banjo cover of “Espresso” to Jimmy Fallon

Sabrina Carpenter’s hit “Espresso” was an inevitable catchy tune in the summer of 2024 – and even Keith Urban fell under its spell. The “Wildside” singer came over The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on September 24th to celebrate the release of his latest album, Highby performing his new track “Chuck Taylors.” During his interview with Jimmy Fallon, Urban also delivered a surprise cover of Carpenter’s catchy song.

Fallon praised Urban for his incredible live shows and mentioned that the Australian country singer and former The voice Mega Mentor is known for performing his own hits as well as songs from other well-known artists such as Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift.

When The Tonight Show When the host asked him how he went about choosing which songs to cover, Urban simply replied that it just had to be a “well-written song,” pointing to Swift’s catalog as a prime example.

“Taylor’s songs are all well written. The basics are good, every single one of them, and you can perform them in any form,” he explained. “You can do any well-written song in almost any style.”

When Fallon brought up “Espresso,” Urban said, “You could do that with a banjo or something. Things like that are easy to play around with.”

Good thing Fallon *coincidentally* had a banjo behind his desk, which he handed to Urban, who seemed genuinely surprised by the revelation.

Urban wasted no time. He quickly began plucking the strings and singing, turning Carpenter’s slice of sunny beach pop into a bluegrass bop.

Urban even changed the lyrics, singing, “I work late because I’m a banjo player / I can’t relate to people who love Slayer” – a reference to earlier in the interview when he talked about getting into metal music to devote phase when he was younger.

In May 2024, Urban posted a video online in which he reported and later narrated Ariana Grande’s “We Can’t Be Friends.” People about his love for Eternal sunshine Rail.
