KANSAS CITY, Missouri (KCTV) – One person was injured and had to be rescued from the water Thursday evening.

The Kansas City, Missouri, Fire Department said it was called to the 7500 block of Hawthorne Road shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday.

There, a victim is said to have fallen into the river from a railroad bridge west of I-435. According to KCFD, the victim was about 20 to 25 feet from an old bridge.

Several fire department units flew a drone to the scene. Another rescue group deployed boats from the River Front Park ramp and headed to the mouth of the Blue River, KCFD said.

The victim was eventually found, recovered from the Blue River, and returned to the boat ramp. Thirty-six minutes after KCFD received the 911 call, the victim was recovered from the water.

According to KCFD, the victim, who is in his mid-30s, was evaluated by emergency medical services and taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment.

“The victim is in stable condition but injured,” a KCFD spokesman said, noting that medical personnel will examine possible broken bones.

This is a developing story. KCTV will update as more information becomes available.
