Kate Middleton’s secret new wedding ring clashes with Princess Diana’s sapphire

The Princess of Wales presented a new wedding ring during her recent, inconspicuous appearance.

Prince William and his wife released a low-key video paying tribute to Team GB following the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics. Kate looked radiant in a white and navy striped T-shirt and kept her accessories to the bare essentials with a simple gold necklace and her engagement ring.

As she gestured with her hands, the Queen flashed what appeared to be a new ring. Alongside her iconic sapphire and diamond ring, which previously belonged to her late mother-in-law Princess Diana, Kate wore a new ring with diamonds alternating with a dark-colored stone that looked like a ruby or garnet.

A ruby ring symbolizes passion, love, courage and luck, and the stone can increase energy levels, intuition and spiritual wisdom.

Eternity rings symbolise everlasting love, with their round shape representing the circle of life. Coloured gemstones are often added to mark birthstones – for Kate it’s a garnet – and special anniversaries – the couple recently celebrated their 13th anniversary, which was to be a citrine.

The ring may have been a gift from William, who had previously given his wife a diamond eternity ring.

Prince William proposed to Princess Diana with a sapphire ring

On October 20, 2010, Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton during a vacation in Kenya with a ring from his late mother’s collection. Diana had chosen it from Garrard before her wedding to King Charles because it reminded her of her mother’s engagement ring and matched her eyes.

William joked in his engagement interview that he carried it around in his backpack for three weeks before the proposal and was terrified of losing it.

“I had been carrying (the ring) around in my backpack for about three weeks before (the proposal),” the royal lady told journalist Tom Bradby.

“Wherever I went, I kept it with me because I knew if the thing disappeared, I would be in big trouble.”

When Kate married Prince William at Westminster Abbey in April 2011, she later added her Welsh gold wedding ring, which was made from a special nugget from the Clogau St David’s Mine in Bontddu, North Wales.

After the birth of Prince George, she finally added an eternity ring. The ring was made by London designer Annoushka and is set with 0.23 carats of diamonds.

Rare royal appearance

The video, posted on her official Instagram account, marked the princess’s first public appearance since the men’s singles final at Wimbledon in July and one of her few appearances since she was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.
