Kaos is the new king on Netflix – here are 3 more mythology series to watch next, including one with 100% on Rotten Tomatoes
The new Jeff Goldblum show from Netflix, Chaos, shows the actor as a god: in the truest sense of the word, because he is the Greek god Zeus. The show is a very modern take on one of the oldest figures in mythology, and although the reviews were decidedly mixed Chaos looks like it’s going to be another big hit for the streamer. And if myths are your thing, there are plenty more top Netflix shows to keep you entertained. Here are three of our favorites with divine Rotten Tomatoes ratings.
Blood of Zeus
Watch on
Originally known as Gods & HeroesSet in ancient Greece, this adult animated series follows Heron, the demigod and son of Zeus, as he attempts to save both Mount Olympus and the Earth. Heron is an invention of the series, although many demigods were hinted at in the original myths. Season 1 has a full 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, as does season 2. Espinof says it is “one of the most entertaining animated series available.”
According to ScreenAnarchy, “Blood of Zeus shines with gloriously dark animation and feels like a graphic novel come to life,” while Paste Magazine would definitely give the series’ second season more than 100% if it could: “We finally have a sequel that in many ways matches and in many cases surpasses the previous season, thanks to compelling villains, improved visuals, and similarly clever nods to ancient tales.”
Ragnarok
Watch on
Now in its third season, Ragnarok Set in a small town poisoned by pollution and rocked by melting glaciers, where the end of times seems imminent, it’s a coming-of-age story with a dark mythological twist and pitch-black humor, centering on two young men who happen to be the latest incarnations of Thor, the God of Thunder, and Loki, the God of Mischief.
According to Book and Film Globe: “Ragnarok is embarrassing and bizarre at its finest” and that’s a compliment: the original myths are embarrassing and bizarre too, and “the young characters in this show actually feel righteous anger in a way that’s appropriate for teens, especially given the kinds of problems teens face today.”
The Sandman
Watch on
Given the allegations against creator Neil Gaiman, we are undecided whether to recommend the book, but it would be a shame if the great work and performances on display here were overshadowed by the author. We rated The Sandman very positive, describing it as “almost brilliant” and particularly praising the “extremely talented actors who breathe life into The Sandman eclectic cast of characters”:
Tom Sturridge, Gwendoline Christie, Boyd Holbrook, Vivienne Acheampong, Jenna Coleman and Mason Alexander Park. It is the story of Morpheus, one of seven mythical beings trapped on Earth, who discovers that the dream dimension that was his home is in ruins.
