Young football fan hugs the Kansas City Chiefs

Former Texas Tech graduate and Kansas Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes II and his wife Brittany Mahomes donated $5 million to the South End Zone and Dustin R. Womble Football Center project.
The donation was announced Thursday by Texas Tech Athletics, which said the latest donation will be the final one to the Campaign for Fearless Champions to help fund the $242 million project.
Mahomes’ donation brings Texas Tech’s fundraising efforts to $115 million for the south end zone and Womble Football Center project, surpassing the athletic department’s original goal of $100 million.
“When we launched this campaign, Patrick was just a freshman and now it’s fitting that we approach the end of the campaign with a gift of our own,” said TTU Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt. “We couldn’t be prouder to announce this gift from Patrick and Brittany Mahomes. We are so proud of Patrick for all he has accomplished and how he has continually supported Texas Tech on a global level.”
In recognition of the gift, Tech Athletics will honor Mahomes by naming the walk-through area at the Womble Football Center after him. The three-time Super Bowl champion will also be honored by naming Texas Tech’s quarterback meeting room and the offensive coordinator’s office in the new South End Zone Building at Jones AT&T Stadium.
According to Tech Athletics, Mahomes remains an ardent supporter of his alma mater and has used an off weekend in the Chiefs’ schedule each of the past three seasons to support the Red Raiders.
He also participated in away games at Houston in 2021 and Kansas in 2023, and returned to campus in 2022 to face Baylor for induction into both the Texas Tech Hall of Fame and Ring of Honor.

In addition, he is considered one of the main people responsible for the conclusion of the contract between Texas Tech Athletics and the sportswear brand Adidas.
