Kamala Harris’ political campaign raises $361 million in August – almost three times Donald Trump’s profit

CNN

Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign increased its already rapid fundraising pace last month, raising $361 million in August, far exceeding the $130 million raised by her Republican rival last month and giving the Democrat a whopping $404 million in cash reserves for the two-month run-up to Election Day, her campaign aides said Friday.

The money amassed in Harris’s affiliated committees exceeds the $295 million Trump’s political organization said it had in its bank accounts, underscoring how much Harris’ historic and late candidacy has motivated donors and transformed the 2024 campaign. The $361 million is by far the best monthly haul for either party this cycle.

If that rate continues, Harris is expected to raise more than $1 billion in the short campaign window between her being named the party’s de facto nominee in late July and Election Day. She has already raised more than $615 million since President Joe Biden ended his re-election campaign on July 21, her campaign said Friday.

“In just a short period of time, Vice President Harris’ candidacy has built a historic, broad and diverse coalition – with the kind of enthusiasm, energy and grit that wins close elections,” Harris campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said in a statement.

The total raised last month surpassed the $310 million Harris and the Democrats raised in July, and came with great enthusiasm as Harris announced Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate and formally accepted her party’s nomination at the party’s high-profile convention in Chicago last month, which also featured appearances by Biden and two of his White House predecessors.

Harris’ campaign also touted August as the best month for grassroots giving in presidential election history, saying it saw record support from first-time donors. According to Harris’ staff, nearly 3 million donors gave to Harris’ political campaign in August, with 1.3 million of them making their first donation of the 2024 election cycle.

The campaign’s third-busiest day for grassroots fundraising was Aug. 6 – the day Harris announced Walz’s selection, campaign officials said.

The August haul does not surpass the monthly fundraising record of $383 million set by the Biden-Harris political campaign in September 2020 at the height of the presidential election campaign.

The totals announced by Trump’s team for August show that his fundraising has slowed. Last month, his campaign raised slightly less than the $138.7 million it raised in July. A previous CNN analysis of donations above $200 this election cycle found that some of Trump’s biggest fundraising days occurred in May, around his conviction in New York, surpassing even the totals the campaign raised in July during his party’s nominating convention.

Harris campaign officials said they would put their money into reaching out to voters, pointing to a “weekend of action” in the coming days that will include 2,000 events and a $370 million digital and TV advertising campaign throughout the election period. The campaign said it has also set up more than 312 offices with the Democratic Party and has more than 2,000 party staffers in swing states, but warned of a close, hard-fought race in the home stretch.

The presidential campaigns will release a full accounting of their August fundraising and spending in filings with federal election authorities later this month.
