Kamala Harris officiated this couple’s historic wedding in 2013

A lesbian couple in California whose historic wedding was performed by Kamala Harris after winning the fight to ban same-sex marriage through Proposition 8 said they were excited about her presidential candidacy.

Kris Perry and Sandy Stier married in 2013, just an hour after the court overturned Prop 8. Kamala Harris was Attorney General of California at the time and a good friend of the couple.

“We had the great privilege of being married by her,” Sandy Stier told the advocate at the Democratic National Convention last week, where Kamala accepted the Democratic nomination for US President.

“I can’t imagine anything better and we are just thrilled to be here and proud of them.”

Sandy said Kamala was “a champion for the people and has been for 30 years.”

She and Kris worked as civil servants and “witnessed her rise to become district attorney and later attorney general in San Francisco.

“She refused to defend Proposition 8, which of course contributed to Proposition 8 being overturned,” she said.

Kris Perry stated that they drove Kamala Harris to the San Francisco Pride Parade in 2019.

“We drove her down Market Street to the San Francisco Pride Parade. She was harassed the whole time,” Kris told the advocate.

“She wore this amazing Levis jacket with the rainbow sequins (pictured above).

“Kamala jumped out of the car and sped away… we thought let’s drive carefully. We don’t want her to get hurt because she’s so enthusiastic. She literally jumped in and out of the car.”

“We are so proud to be part of this moment”

Last week, Kris Perry and Sandy Stier and their son Spencer appeared in a video shown during the DNC.

“We hope everyone can feel the love and warm embrace from Kamala Harris that we have felt all these years,” Kris said.

“We are just so proud to be part of this moment. And we know that with Kamala Harris at the helm, we are moving toward a future where everyone can feel the same sense of belonging and equality that we have fought so hard for.”
