Kamala Harris back in Michigan for Labor Day campaign rally

Vice President Kamala Harris will visit Michigan as part of her Labor Day tour as part of her presidential campaign.

The Democratic candidate’s recent visit to this key swing state is her second visit to Michigan since entering the race as the presumptive Democratic Party nominee.

Harris will speak in the Detroit metropolitan area on Monday afternoon. FOX 2 plans to stream her remarks in the player above.

Polls show the Democratic candidate and Donald Trump virtually neck and neck, including in Michigan. The latest numbers show the Republican candidate with a narrow lead over Harris in the Great Lakes state.

According to an EPIC-MRA poll of 600 likely voters, Trump is ahead in Michigan 46 to 45.

Together with Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, the three Rust Belt states represent an important path to victory for both candidates, after the trio already helped Trump win in 2016 and President Joe Biden in 2020.

Before coming to Michigan, Harris took a bus tour of Georgia and her first television interview with CNN.

Her Labor Day visit is no coincidence. Given the party’s close ties to labor and the fact that Michigan is the headquarters of the United Auto Workers union, the candidate will likely be able to build Democratic support among working-class voters.

There have already been examples of this, such as UAW President Shawn Fain’s appearance at the Democratic Party Convention two weeks ago.

He called for support for Harris and called Trump a strikebreaker.
