Kaitlin Olson‘s husband, Rob McElhenneyis in business with Ryan Reynoldsbut that doesn’t mean that they have a double date with him and Blake Lively.
“Everyone is very, very busy,” Olson, 49, said exclusively We weekly on High potential Premieres in Los Angeles on Tuesday, September 17th.
The actress revealed, “I’ve met Blake twice,” noting that Lively and Reynolds, 47, “live on different coasts.” (Olson and McElhenney, 47, have been married since 2008. Reynolds and Lively, 37, married in 2012.)
Despite the physical distance, Olson is not averse to going out with the New York-based couple. “I would love to hang out with both of them more often,” Olson said, adding, “I love Ryan.”
Olson and Lively were brought together after their husbands bought Welsh football club Wrexham AFC in 2020. Two years later, McElhenney and Reynolds’ journey as owners of the international club was featured on FX’s Welcome to Wrexham.
The second season, which premiered in 2023, charted the team’s path to promotion from the National League to the English Football League. The team’s successful season led to promotion to League Two of the EFL in April 2023, Wrexham’s first promotion in 15 years.
The following spring, Wrexham were promoted back to EFL League One after defeating Forest Green Rovers in April.
“Honestly, it’s absolutely extraordinary. There’s nothing like it,” Olson said Us about her family’s decision to become owners of Wrexham Football Club. “It’s different to anything we’ve ever done before and this community is so wonderful. They’re such wonderful people.”
She gushed: “If you ever get the chance to visit them, I highly recommend it. They are so supportive of each other and their team. They welcomed us like family and I would do anything for them.”
The success of Wrexham has now led to another business venture between McElhenney and Reynolds – and another international football team. In April, it was announced that the two actors had invested in Mexican football club Club Necaxa.
McElhenney and Reynolds will work closely with Eva Longoria, Al Tylis And Sam Porterwho are all investors in the club.
While her husband expands his sports empire, Olson is working on her latest TV project, ABC’s High potential.
“I read this pilot and honestly didn’t want anything to do with an hour-long drama, but when I read it, I liked it so much,” Olson said Us of the new show. “I loved the character. … I didn’t want to love her, but there was no denying it. I just did.”
Olson, who worked with McElhenney on It’s always sunny in Philadelphia since 2005, noticed that her husband is also a fan of the project.
“I was so nervous to show him the pilot, not because he’s my biggest critic, but just a very critical viewer,” she recalls. “I showed it to him and he absolutely loved it, and I’d be lying if I didn’t say that was a huge relief. He loved it. And I loved it, and I trust myself, but when he loved it, I thought, ‘OK, we have something great here.'”
High potential airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
