Juventus returned to the top of Serie A after a 3-0 win at Genoa on Saturday as striker Dusan Vlahovic scored twice to help Thiago Motta’s side return to the top.

Juventus, which started the season with consecutive 3-0 wins but has drawn 0-0 in its last three league games, leads the table with 12 points from six games.

They are one point ahead of second-placed Torino, which hosts Lazio on Sunday, and rivals AC Milan and Inter Milan in third and fourth.

The teams, who drew both games in Serie A last season, started cautiously and a dull first half ended with no shots on target, with Vlahovic sending a free-kick just over the bar.

But the game came to life when Juventus were awarded a penalty after the break for a handball by Koni De Winter and the Serbian striker made no mistake in converting the penalty.

He scored again in the 55th minute, sending a pass from Teun Koopmeiners from a tight angle into the far bottom corner, before the Dutch midfielder hit the crossbar from close range shortly afterwards.

Vlahovic had a chance to seal the win with a hat-trick towards the end of the game, but his header missed the target from point-blank range.

Substitute Francisco Conceição secured the win with a minute left with a low finish from near the penalty spot.

Juve have a perfect record of six games without conceding a goal, the first such streak in the club’s history.

The last team to achieve a similar feat was AC Milan in 1993 under Fabio Capello.

The game in Genoa was played behind closed doors after crowd violence broke out during the Coppa Italia game against Serie B club Sampdoria, leaving more than 50 people injured.

Juventus travel to RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday before hosting bottom-placed Cagliari in Serie A on October 6.

Genoa, unbeaten in its last three league games against Juventus, has one win from six games and sits in 16th place with five points.
