Justin Herbert active for the Chargers; Steelers cut rookie WR Roman Wilson

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is active and is expected to start on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium.

Herbert’s participation was questionable due to a severe ankle sprain. Herbert trained on the field about two hours before the game.

The Chargers will have all three quarterbacks in action for the 1 p.m. game. Herbert’s replacements are Easton Stick and Taylor Heinicke.

The Steelers will be without quarterback Russell Wilson for the third straight game as he recovers from a calf injury. Justin Fields will make his third consecutive start of the season and face a Chargers defense that has allowed the fewest points in the last two weeks.

Wilson is inactive but will be dressed as an emergency third quarterback.

Rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson will have to wait another week for his debut with the Steelers. Although Wilson has practiced fully over the past two days after sitting out an ankle injury since the start of training camp, he is inactive for the third straight week. The Steelers will start four wide receivers.

Cornerback Darius Rush, safety Terrell Edmunds, guard Isaac Seumalo and tight end MyCole Pruitt are also unavailable for the Steelers. A day earlier, the Steelers had placed rookie tackle Troy Fautanu on the injured list due to a knee injury.

Defensive lineman Dean Lowry is active for the first time this season, having signed a two-year contract with the Steelers as a free agent. Tight end Rodney Williams is also active.

On Saturday, the Steelers promoted offensive lineman John Leglue and cornerback James Pierre from the practice squad.

The Steelers and Chargers each enter the game with a record of 2-0.

The Chargers’ wide receiver Joshua Palmer, linebacker Junior Colson, cornerback Tarheeb Still, running back Kimani Vidal, offensive lineman Jordan McFadden and defensive lineman Justin Eboigbe are unavailable for selection.
