Julie Chen leaves Big Brother live eviction episode due to Covid, Jerry O’Connell steps in
Julie Chen Moonves is leaving Big Brother on Thursday night because of Covid, and Jerry O’Connell is stepping in.
The longtime CBS anchor said in a statement on social media that she will not host the episode about the eviction scheduled for Thursday, September 12.
“Friday morning I woke up with a sore throat and went to see my good friend who is an ENT doctor. That evening he called and said I had Covid,” Chen Moonves said in a statement shared on Instagram. “Luckily, this is only my second time and it was very mild! No fever and just a sore throat.”

She continued, “Unfortunately, as of this morning, I am still testing positive… although I feel good, strong and healthy.Since my cough is gone, I have to miss the live eviction show ‘Big Brother’ tonight.”
Stepping in for hosting tasks is The conversation Co-host Jerry O’Connell, whom Chen Moonves thanks for “stepping in for me.”
“I hope Jerry fits into my dress, has fun and tells the houseguests I miss them but will be watching from home,” she added.

Chen Moonves ended her statement with a bit of humor, saying, “See? Chenbot is only human after all! Love each other and enjoy the show tonight.”
O’Connell made it official when he wrote the script for Big Brother before stepping in for Chen Moonves on the show.
“This is Jerry O’Connell. I’m one of the hosts of The conversation,” he said in a video shared on Instagram. “Tonight I will be the substitute teacher for Big Brother“Julie Chen Moonves is not doing well, we love her.”
