Jonathan Rowe: Norwich City winger close to joining Marseille

Norwich have agreed to sell winger Jonathan Rowe to Marseille for £17 million.

The 21-year-old is set to join Stade Vélodrome on loan, with an obligation to buy him for £14 million plus £3 million in add-ons – with Norwich also including a sell-on clause.

Previous offers from Marseille for the England U21 international had been rejected, but he is now set to move to coach Roberto de Zerbi in the south of France.

Canaries boss Johannes Hoff Thorup said this month that Rowe declined to play in the 2-0 opening defeat at Oxford despite the Ligue 1 club being interested in him.

He had been training with the club’s U21 team and did not play in Norwich’s Carabao Cup win over Stevenage and their 2-2 league draw with Blackburn.

Rowe, who came through the club’s academy, scored 13 goals in 38 appearances last season as the Canaries lost to Leeds in the semi-finals of the Championship play-offs.

Previously, 21-year-old striker Abu Kamara, who is being courted by Portsmouth, submitted a transfer request this week, while the Canaries also sold striker Adam Idah to Celtic.

They are close to signing striker Ante Crnac from Polish club Rakow Czestochowa. The 20-year-old Croatian, who scored eight goals in 26 league games last season, is seen as a direct replacement for Idah.
