Jessie Minter talks about the “pressure” of working with Jim Harbaugh at the Chargers

As a new day begins in Los Angeles Chargers football history, the arrival of head coach Jim Harbaugh is met with great excitement. Defensive coordinator Jesse Minter spoke about the inevitable pressure that comes with working with a football legend like Harbaugh.

“Nobody puts more pressure on me than I do,” Minter told reporters Thursday. “I’m not too worried about it. I think coach (Harbaugh) is the same way. I don’t think we let outside factors or what people say or do affect us. We have high expectations for ourselves and our groups and our units and our team. This will be the first opportunity to show that.”

There has been much speculation about whether the new regime will live up to expectations, but Minter shared that Harbaugh is committed to getting the Bolts back on track.

“Some people have hobbies and other things to distract themselves. Football is his job and his hobby,” Minter said, according to the team’s transcript. “Team building is his job and his hobby. He puts everything he has into it.”

Harbaugh is known for rebuilding struggling programs and turning them into winning teams.

His reputation inevitably creates high expectations for the team he coaches, but his staff respects him so much that they face every new challenge with him.

Minter and offensive coordinator Greg Roman both worked with him at Michigan. Roman was also the San Francisco 49ers’ offensive coordinator when Harbaugh was head coach.

“He’s in action all the time. That’s one of the reasons he’s been so great over the years,” Roman added. “I don’t really notice much of a difference, he’s in action all the time. That’s Jim. One of the reasons we love him.”

Harbaugh has even brought former players onto his coaching staff, including Navarro Bowman, who was a three-time Pro Bowl player with San Francisco.

“His approach and understanding of how to get a team focused on a single goal is great and has always been great,” Bowman said. “That’s why he’s won everywhere he’s been.”

“He just won the national championship (in Michigan) and I’m sure he can’t wait to get one here,” Bowman added.

The praise from Minter, Roman and Bowman is a testament to Harbaugh’s influence and impact on football.

Chargers fans only have to wait a few more days until the Harbaugh era officially begins. On September 8, the Bolts will face the Las Vegas Raiders.

The encounter is intended to be a revenge game for the Chargers, who lost 21:63 to the Raiders in December.
