Jeremy Allen White wins for “The Bear”

Jeremy Allen White received the award for best actor in a comedy series for his role in The bear for the second year in a row at the 2024 Emmys.

“Thank you so much,” the two-time Emmy winner began his speech. “My heart is in my throat. Thank you. Thank you to the Academy and my fellow nominees. I am so honored to be in your company.”

White thanked The bear creator Christopher Storer for choosing him to star in the hit FX show, adding that he was so grateful and happy before specifically mentioning his co-stars.

“Thank you, my wonderful cast. I love you forever. I love working with you and I want us to be part of each other’s lives forever. I love you so much,” he continued. “This show changed my life. It instilled in me the belief that change is possible if you are able to reach out. You are really, truly, never really alone.”

Ebon Moss-Bachrach also won the Emmy for Best Supporting Actor for The bear.

When creator Christopher Storer later won the award for Best Direction in a Comedy, the series set a new record for most awards for a comedy with eleven awards in a single season, surpassing its own record from last year when it won ten awards.

The 2024 Emmys will be the second to be held this year. The 2023 Emmys were postponed due to the strikes of both the screenwriters and actors last year.

The presenters of this year’s biggest night on television include Kristen Wiig, Viola Davis, Lily Gladstone, Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, Martin Short, Matt Bomer, Colin Farrell, Mindy Kaling, Jimmy Kimmel, Greta Lee, John Leguizamo, George Lopez, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Jean Smart.

This year’s nominees were led by FX’s Shogun (with 25 nominations) and The bear (23, a comedy series record), Hulu’s Only murders in the building (21), HBO/Max’s True Detective: Nightland (19) and Netflix’s The Crown (18).

Netflix led all nominations with 107 total nominations, followed by FX with 93, HBO with 91 and Apple TV+ with 72. Disney as a whole, which includes projects from FX, ABC, Hulu and Disney+, achieved a personal best this year with 183 Emmy nominations.

The 76th Annual Emmy Awards, co-hosted by father-son duo Eugene and Dan Levy, will broadcast live from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. PT/8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. ET.
