Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are splitting again after two years of marriage. As TMZ reported, the Atlas actress filed for divorce from the Argo star on Tuesday, August 20. Lopez filed for divorce in Los Angeles County Superior Court and listed April 26, 2024 as her separation date. She filed the paperwork herself, without hiring an attorney, and is technically representing herself. August 20 also happened to mark the second anniversary of Bennifer’s traditional wedding ceremony.

The couple did not have a prenuptial agreement, sources told the above-mentioned publication.

“She really tried to make it work and is heartbroken,” a source told People about Lopez’s decision to end her fairytale romance with Affleck. Lopez and Affleck rekindled their romance in 2021, more than 17 years after initially postponing their wedding planned for September 2003, only to call off their engagement in January 2004.

News of Lopez and Affleck’s renewed romance first made headlines in April 2021 after the singer split from MLB star Alex Rodriguez. Ben and Jen made their Instagram account official in July of the same year and returned to the red carpet as a loved-up couple at the 2021 Venice Film Festival.

Sources tipped news outlets off about their engagement in April 2022, and the couple eloped to Las Vegas on July 16 to exchange vows. They later held a larger wedding ceremony at Affleck’s Georgia estate in August of the same year and said “I do” for the second time.

The singer and actress has twins Max and Emme, 16, with Marc Anthony, whom she was married to from 2004 to 2014. Affleck, who was married to Jennifer Garner from 2005 to 2019, has three children with the actress: Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12.

“The kids are our top priority, as they always have been,” a Lopez insider told People after she filed for divorce.

Rumors of trouble in Lopez and Affleck’s paradise began to swirl last May when the actress attended the 2024 Met Gala in NYC alone, extending her stay in the Big Apple over the summer. Affleck spent most of his summer in Los Angeles, and the couple did not reunite on July 4, their second wedding anniversary in July, or Lopez’s 55th birthday that same month.

Lopez returned to LA in August, and a People source said at the time that she hadn’t seen Ben in months. However, the actor did get a visit from her at his rental home in Brentwood, California, on his birthday on August 15, as their Beverly Hills mansion is still on the market for $68 million.
