Jenna Ortega is pretty sure she auditioned for Zendaya’s role in dune. The Beetlejuice Beetlejuice The actress said she was 15 when she went for the interview.
“I think it was Chani, I think it was Zendaya’s,” Ortega recalled in a BuzzFeed Interview. “But they didn’t say that, everything was top secret.”
Ortega added that she remembers being “really excited” because Denis Villeneuve “is one of my favorite directors.”
Ortega is now 21, which would reveal her potential dune Auditioned as a six-year-old. In addition to Zendaya, the critically acclaimed first part of the science fiction series also starred Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgard and Dave Bautista. Elsewhere in the interview, Ortega talked about her experiences filming Netflix’ Wednesday with legendary director Tim Burton. Burton also directed the upcoming Beetlejuice Beetlejuice — the sequel to his 1988 film Beetlejuice – in which Ortega plays the role of Astrid Deetz, the daughter of Winona Ryder’s Lydia.
“To Wednesday we just wanted to get to know each other a little bit,” Ortega said of her relationship with Burton. “On Beetlejuice … he seemed much more playful and I think that actually helped our relationship a lot … it was just a very joyful, happy shoot.”
Ryder reprises her role in the film, alongside Michael Keaton and Catherine O’Hara. “Winona was so warm,” Ortega said. “I feel really, really lucky that I was able to build such a bond with her on set.”
Keaton and O’Hara also received high praise from Ortega.
“I’ve been a fan of Michael Keaton for so long that I think I retreated into myself when I actually saw him in person because I was weirdly shy,” she said, adding that playing Keaton’s Beetlejuice role was “the first time I saw someone completely disappear without any of themselves being involved in it, so that was pretty special.”
Ortega added: “Catherine O’Hara is one of the funniest, if not the funniest person I have ever met in my life.”
Ortega plays Wednesday Addams in Netflix’s Wednesdaywhose first season was released in 2022. The team is currently producing the second season.
“We’re currently shooting episodes 201 and 204, and there’s a lot going on in those episodes and they feel very prominent,” Ortega said. “It feels like we’re tackling a big scene every day.”
Ortega also revealed some personal details in the interview, such as that she had fallen in love with a celebrity and that she was confused and amused by the (completely made-up) rumors that she was dating Johnny Depp.
“For me, it’s so crazy, I’ve never talked about it, I’ve never said anything like that,” Ortega said. “I found it pretty funny.”
