Jelly Roll already knows he wants to return to the Emmys!

While I talk to PEOPLE and Weekly entertainment Speaking on the “Red Carpet Live” show ahead of the 2024 Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 15, the 39-year-old musician said he wants to star in a television series so he could possibly return in the future, after calling his first appearance at the awards show “the coolest experience.”

“It’s crazy, man,” he said. “I want to be on a TV show now so I can come here every year, dude. I call all my country music friends and tell them, ‘We missed the mark, dude, we need to be at the Emmys.'”

The country music artist and rapper, whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord, added that he felt “honored” to be asked to appear in Sunday’s “In Memoriam” segment.

“It is an honor because tonight I have been chosen to honor some of the greatest storytellers in the industry,” he said Weekly entertainmentPatrick Gomez, editor-in-chief, and Janine Rubenstein, editor-in-chief of PEOPLE. “And I’m a storyteller myself, and I think it’s really cool that in a room full of storytellers, we’re using music as a moment to honor some of them and hopefully help them.”

“That’s what music is all about, isn’t it? Music is medicine. Hopefully someone watching the show tonight can be helped,” he added.

Jelly Roll is currently on tour across the country. He noted that the most common question he was asked on the carpet Sunday night came from people asking about his wife of eight years, Bunnie Xo.

“I hope you’re watching this, mom – the most asked question on the red carpet was ‘Where’s your wife?’ We’re in the middle of a tour right now, we played in New Orleans last night and we’re in Orlando for the next day or two, so while I was away she took a family day off to go to the beach with them,” he explained. “I told her God had a little side assignment for me, so I had to go to LA and do this.”
