JD Vance’s liberal neighbors in Alexandria are angry about the Secret Service closing a local park for security reasons

The Secret Service of Republican vice presidential candidate Senator JD Vance (R-OH) caused an uproar among his neighbors near his home in Alexandria, Virginia, when they recently temporarily closed a small park near the Ohio senator’s home for security reasons.

Security measures for Vance have been increased in recent weeks, especially since the assassination attempt on his Republican running mate and former President Donald Trump. The city, in consultation with the Secret Service, has closed a small park in the immediate vicinity of the Vance family home to protect them from potential threats.

Vance’s house is located in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, one of the most progressive suburbs of Washington DC

The backlash against this security decision sparked social media posts and numerous community messages from his left-leaning neighbors.

Neighbors posted on the social media app Bluesky their plans to meet at the park near Vance’s home before it closes on Sunday.

“Partying like there’s no tomorrow in the park next to JV Dance’s house. Which there isn’t because it’s closed to the public starting tomorrow. I brought donuts,” one person wrote, showing pictures of food and a colorful friendship bracelet that read “Kamala (Harris) is a brat.”

The reference to the doughnuts comes in the context of social media posts about Vance’s visit to a doughnut shop during his campaign, which some progressives called “weird.”

Another neighbor posted that the gathering would feature cat lady costumes and anti-Trump karaoke music.

“ALX: We’re meeting at the park next to JV Dance’s house tomorrow at 5pm to say goodbye before the Secret Service shuts it down on Sunday. There will be Kamala friendship bracelets, cat lady costumes, donuts (whatever makes sense), and karaoke to ‘I’m a Never Trump Guy (Remix),'” she wrote.

Neighbors often joked about Vance and Sofas, referring to a debunked, X-rated hoax about a story that was never in his memoirs. Hillbilly ElegyIn one post, a neighbor asks if anyone has “an old kid’s sofa” that they could use for the park party.

A Del Ray resident, pictured, proudly wore a T-shirt that read “Del Ray Mafia for Kamala” at the park’s farewell party over the weekend.

Other Del Ray neighbors have posted signs in their front yards reading “Childless Cat Lady for Kamala” to protest Vance’s residence in their neighborhood.

Neighbors have openly hung rainbow-striped fabric and pride flags since Vance moved into the neighborhood as a newly elected senator. Some local activists have reportedly “bombarded” his house with transgender and pride flags, as well as a sign that read “Respect Our Rights” around a utility tree in front of his house.

“JD Vance’s neighbors freaking out over a postage stamp-sized toddler playground being closed for safety reasons is the height of Northern Virginia,” Alexandria resident Julie Gunlock wrote on X.

She added: “As a reminder, this is the same neighborhood where Democrat James Hodgkinson tried to assassinate 24 Republican congressmen a few years ago, and these people are now complaining about a minor security measure taken for the man who ran with Trump and was almost assassinated a few weeks ago. These people are crazy.”
