Jaylen Brown launches new performance brand and signature shoe originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

Jaylen Brown’s busy offseason continued on Tuesday with the unveiling of his new sportswear brand, 741.

The Boston Celtics star announced the launch of 741 via Instagram and the brand’s official website, 741performance.com. According to the press release, Brown “turned down over $50 million in endorsement deals with other major sneaker companies in order to gain full ownership and creative control of his own brand.”

“Understanding ownership and value is what matters to the next generation of athletes,” Brown said. “It’s time to think differently and be different… to come up with new ideas. It’s time to create more value for everyone involved, from athletes to consumers to employees and the communities that support them.”

As for the brand name “741”, there is a deeper meaning behind the numbers.

According to Ben Felderstein of Complex, the numbers 7, 4 and 1 “have appeared frequently in (Brown’s) life and represent spiritual awakening, hard work and new beginnings.”

“741 is more than just a sneaker brand – it’s a statement of independence, creativity and personal responsibility,” said Brown.

Brown was influenced by the late Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant’s desire to start his own sneaker brand before his untimely death.

“Kobe’s journey taught me to be fearless and take the sport and society to new heights. That’s the attitude I bring to 741,” he said.

NBA fans will see Brown in his new 741 sneakers next season as he tries to lead the Celtics to their second consecutive title.

741 can be pre-ordered at 741performance.com and will go on sale on October 22nd.
