Jardin Gilbert’s target call leads to USC’s game-winning touchdown against LSU

play

LSU defensive back Jardin Gilbert received a costly targeting penalty in Sunday’s season opener against USC.

Gilbert led the way with the crown of his helmet and hit Trojans wide receiver Kyron Hudson right in the helmet after Hudson caught a 20-yard pass from Miller Moss. Hudson caught the ball at the 27-yard line with 18 seconds left in the game and the score was 20-20.

However, the penalty put the ball at the 13-yard line, and Woody Marks scored the game-winning touchdown on the next play. Gilbert was ejected from the game and will be suspended for the first half of LSU’s Week 2 game against Nicholls.
