Janet Jackson repeats far-right conspiracy theory about Kamala Harris’ ethnicity in wild interview with the Guardian

Janet Jackson hinted that she believes in certain conspiracy theories about Kamala Harris’ ethnicity in an interview with The Guardian published on Friday. She claimed: “Her father is white. That’s what I’ve been told.”

Harris’ father is Professor Donald J. Harris, a black man born in Jamaica who married her Indian mother, Shyamala Gopalan, in 1963 while they were attending the University of California, Berkeley. Harris was born in 1964 and her sister Maya in 1967. The couple divorced in 1971.

Jackson made the comment when asked about her opinion on the upcoming U.S. presidential election and the possibility of the country electing a black woman to that office for the first time.

“Do you know what they allegedly said? She’s not black. That’s what I heard. That she’s Native American,” Jackson said.

After the interviewer clarified that Harris is biracial, Jackson added, “Her father is white. That’s what I’ve been told. I mean, I haven’t seen the news in a couple of days. I’m told they found out her father is white.”

Although Jackson had not previously endorsed a candidate, she pushed a campaign for “When We All Vote” in 2020.

Jackson continued to express concern that no matter who wins the election, there will be “chaos.” She explained, “Honestly, I don’t want to answer that because I really don’t know. I think no matter how it turns out, there will be chaos.”

The singer was also asked about the changes in the United States, particularly in relation to her hit single “Rhythm Nation,” which includes the following lyrics: “This is the test, no struggle, no progress/Help your brother do his best/Things are getting worse, we’ve got to make them better/It’s time to deal with it, let’s work together.”

When asked if things were getting better, Jackson responded with a “weird about-face” in light of recent headlines about her late brother Michael Jackson’s estate. She said: “Well, there’s all this crap with child trafficking and sex trafficking, you know what I mean, that wasn’t as prevalent back then? At least we didn’t know about it back then. I guess we didn’t know, did we? Not really. I think now it’s really come to light because it’s like a billion dollar business and all that crap.”

On Friday, Michael Jackson’s estate sued an unnamed former employee who threatened to make new allegations of sexual misconduct against the late singer. The man is part of a group of five people who have accused Michael Jackson of abusing them as children. In 2020, the estate quietly paid the group a $20 million settlement in exchange for signing nondisclosure agreements that kept the settlement secret.

The $20 million was paid out in installments. The man decided he no longer wanted to comply with the terms of the non-disclosure agreement before the final payment of $500,000 was made and instead requested a payment of $213 million from the estate.

Since Trump spread the lie that she had only recently identified herself as black, false claims about Harris’ ethnic origins have been piling up in MAGA circles.
