Jane’s Addiction gig ends in chaos after Perry Farrell punches guitarist Dave Navarro

A Jane’s Addiction show ended abruptly on Friday night (September 13) when a visibly angry Perry Farrell hit guitarist Dave Navarro and had to be physically restrained by crew members.

The reunion concert took place in Boston after the band had previously held two outdoor shows in New York that had received mixed reactions from fans and critics, with many critics calling Perry’s performance lackluster.

At the Leader Bank Pavilion, Farrell reportedly screamed at Navarro during the ninth track of the set, “Mountain Song,” and the tension continued to build as the performance progressed.

As the band played their 1988 song “Ocean Size,” Perry appeared to snap at Navarro before walking over to him and aggressively shoving him with his shoulder.

As Navarro spoke to him and placed his hand on Perry’s chest to keep him at a distance, the singer appeared to punch him with his fist before being tackled by crew members and pushed off the stage.

The stage lights quickly dimmed and the music stopped as the audience began to boo and cheer.

Fans shared footage of the dramatic incident on social media, while others wait to hear if the band will go ahead with their long-awaited reunion tour. The shows will be their first in 15 years and will be co-headlined by fellow ’90s band Love & Rockets.

The Independent has contacted Jane’s Addiction’s representative for comment.

A look back at the band’s earlier performance in Tampa, Florida, indicated growing tensions between Farrell and Navarro.

“Farrell let loose many nonsensical tirades about cow pastures, mushrooms, surfing, life in Florida and political arguments with his brother,” while “drinking an entire bottle of wine throughout the entire performance,” Creative lounging reported.

“At one point, during one of his chats, Navarro deliberately played a loud, piercing chord on his guitar to nearly silence Farrell and get the show back on track.”

Perry had also expressed his frustration over apparent vocal problems at the first of the band’s two New York concerts, admitting: “Ladies and gentlemen, I have to be honest with you. There’s something wrong with my voice. I suddenly can’t get the notes out anymore.”

Bassist Eric Avery, who helped pull Perry away from Navarro during Friday night’s incident, wrote on Instagram last week: “I’m excited to play this spectacular rooftop venue again tonight. I’m optimistic we’ll be better.”

Under Navarro’s latest Instagram post, which shows a photo from his performance during the New York concert on September 9, his fans have shared messages of support.

“Nothing but respect for Dave Navarro and Eric Avery,” said one.

“Really sad I had to witness this sh*t tonight,” wrote another. “You were INCREDIBLE and I’m grateful I got to see it. I hate the ending. You didn’t deserve this.”
