Jane’s Addiction apologizes and cancels next performance after singer Perry Farrell argues with guitarist Dave Navarro on stage

Jane’s Addiction apologized to their fans for the abrupt end of their show on Friday following an onstage scuffle between frontman Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro.

“We would like to express our deepest apologies to our fans for the events of last night,” the band wrote in a statement in their Instagram story on Saturday evening.

The rock group’s statement comes 24 hours after their chaotic performance at the Leader Bank Pavilion in Boston, where clashes broke out between band members amid growing “tension and hostility.”

Farrell, 65, was in the middle of singing “Ocean Size” when he became visibly angry and shouted insults at the audience and his bandmates.

He then turned to Navarro and rammed his shoulder into the unsuspecting guitarist before an altercation broke out between the two rockers.

The whole thing culminated in Farrell punching Navarro in the face and elbowing him twice before several crew members and bassist Eric Avery rushed over and restrained the frontman.

The stage lights were dimmed, but several punches were thrown as the hotheaded Farrell was escorted out of the crowd’s view.

Due to the brawl, the rock group announced that they would cancel their Sunday show in Bridgeport, Connecticut and that fans would be refunded their tickets.

Farrell’s wife, Etty Lau Farrell, gave her account of the events that led to the rocker’s heated outburst during the band’s Beantown show.

She revealed that tensions had increased between Farrell and the rest of the band because his voice was being drowned out by all of their instruments.

“He screamed just to be heard,” Etty Lau wrote on Instagram on Saturday.

“Perry’s frustration grew from night to night. He felt the volume on stage was extremely loud and his voice was being drowned out by the band,” she added.

“Perry suffered from tinnitus and a sore throat every night. But when the audience in the front row started complaining to Perry and yelling at him that the band was playing too loudly and they couldn’t hear him, Perry freaked out.”

Etty Lau claimed that after the other three band members left the stage, Avery “walked up to Perry in the dark behind Dan, put him in a headlock and punched him three times in the stomach.”

“Perry was a crazy animal for the next half hour – he finally didn’t calm down, he just broke down and cried and cried,” she continued.

“Eric, well, either he didn’t understand what decalization meant, or he took advantage of the situation and gave Perry a few unfair hits.”

Navarro has not yet commented personally on the exchange.

Jane’s Addiction performed two shows at Pier 17 in New York City last week, one of them on September 10, where Farrell told the audience that he was having trouble with his singing, saying, “There’s something wrong with my voice.”

The band’s performance on September 18th in Toronto, Canada is still planned.
